This house is an ongoing design research process for a house on a stretch of seacoast near Colombo, Sri Lanka. It takes the form of a traditional, International Style bungalow—the familiar flat box with regular columns. Beyond this initial appearance, however, the project undermines the expectations of the type. In place of the large-paned glass, there are simply openings; the house can be entered through its facade at any point. It remains radically open to its surrounding landscape, which contains many aspects that should properly be in the interior. The ground floor and roof all contain open and fluid spaces, and the basement spills out into an open well to the south of the main volume.
